Job Summary: Are you passionate about protecting data, enabling ethical information use and supporting high quality care through sound governance? WWL is looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Information Governance officer to join our dedicated team. In this role you'll help ensure the Trust meets its data protection, confidentiality and information security obligations. You will advise staff on IG best practices, support Freedom of Information and Subject Access Requests, assist with DPIAs and support the DSPT / CAF. Main duties of the job

We require a knowledgeable, highly motivated and well organised individual to work in this busy and dynamic environment. You will have excellent interpersonal and Excel skills with an ability to work with a range of internal and external stakeholders including staff, patients, subject matter experts, health care providers, police and other third parties in the protection and provision of information. You will be required to provide training sessions and communications on the importance of maintaining confidentiality and appropriately accessing records. A prior working knowledge and experience in Data Protection, Information Governance and interest in the GDPR and DP 2018 will be essential. The ideal candidate will be an excellent team worker who can bring colleagues together across the organisation to ensure information governance matters are managed safely.

Job Responsibilities

Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of Data Protection Legislation, Statutory Records Management Control procedures, the Freedom of Information Act and the Environmental Information Regulations, and act as a source of expertise and guidance to Trust staff. Demonstrate knowledge of project management techniques to ensure compliance with statutory regulations such as the Publication Scheme and the Document Control Programme. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of records management and NHS guidance, interpreting its impact on the Trust. Develop and liaise on project plans to support the rollout of the Document Control Programme in collaboration with key stakeholder managers. Provide statistical information to the Information Governance Manager to monitor trust compliance with core performance standards, using statistical process control techniques. Produce monthly document control performance reports for executive review with timely and accurate information.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualifications: Professional or Management qualification equivalent to degree level or significant NHS experience; relevant qualifications in Data Protection / Data Processing / FOI / EIR / Records Management or equivalent
  • Experience with information in an NHS or similar large organisation
  • Knowledge of Information Governance principles and practices; working with the Information Sharing Gateway
  • Database design and systems management; working in a confidential and secure environment
  • Interacting with staff at all levels; training and promoting use of information

Desirable

  • ECDL; Prince 2 Practitioner
  • Experience in NHS health informatics environment; web design; risk assessment; multidisciplinary team work

Skills

  • Ability to work with limited supervision; initiative and meeting deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and motivational skills; advanced Microsoft Office
  • Excellent organisational, problem-solving and communication skills
  • Project management, report writing and analytical abilities; presentations to large audiences
  • Effective communication with staff at all levels and the public; ability to facilitate joint working

Knowledge

  • Data Protection Act 2018, GDPR, Caldicott Principles; FOI and EIR
  • Information governance in the NHS; confidentiality and sensitivity of PI data
  • Information Sharing Gateway; general NHS functions; client organisation objectives
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
