In-House Senior Counsel - Litigation / Regulatory
Location: Cheshire (commutable from Manchester and Liverpool)
Working Pattern: Full-time or part-time considered
Working Arrangements: Hybrid working
Responsibilities
- Provide essential legal support across the client’s operations as a pragmatic, commercially-minded Senior Counsel in a genuine generalist role.
- Act as the trusted legal voice for teams across the business, helping them navigate complex legal issues and make sound decisions.
- Focus on consumer protection and dispute resolution, delivering clear, actionable advice that helps the business move forward.
- Answer legal queries from colleagues and provide solutions-focused advice on contracts, compliance, and operational matters.
- Support teams handling escalated customer complaints and disputes, particularly those progressing through ADR or Ombudsman processes.
- Keep on top of changes in consumer protection law and translate them for operational impact.
- Review and draft contracts, terms and conditions, and policies for both consumer-facing and business-to-business situations.
- Deliver training to build legal awareness across the organisation.
Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor (or equivalent) with at least 3 years’ PQE (much more experience welcomed!), ideally gained in-house.
- Regulatory expertise is desirable; knowledge of UK consumer protection laws and data protection is preferred.
- Excellent legal drafting and communication skills; ability to explain complex issues in plain English.
- Experience with ADR services or Ombudsman schemes would be desirable.
- Balance legal technical skills with commercial pragmatism.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and be the go-to person for quick legal guidance.
- Clear communication with non-lawyers, attention to detail, and a genuine enjoyment of helping people solve problems.
