In-House Senior Counsel - Litigation / Regulatory
Location: Cheshire (commutable from Manchester and Liverpool)

Working Pattern: Full-time or part-time considered

Working Arrangements: Hybrid working

Responsibilities

  • Provide essential legal support across the client’s operations as a pragmatic, commercially-minded Senior Counsel in a genuine generalist role.
  • Act as the trusted legal voice for teams across the business, helping them navigate complex legal issues and make sound decisions.
  • Focus on consumer protection and dispute resolution, delivering clear, actionable advice that helps the business move forward.
  • Answer legal queries from colleagues and provide solutions-focused advice on contracts, compliance, and operational matters.
  • Support teams handling escalated customer complaints and disputes, particularly those progressing through ADR or Ombudsman processes.
  • Keep on top of changes in consumer protection law and translate them for operational impact.
  • Review and draft contracts, terms and conditions, and policies for both consumer-facing and business-to-business situations.
  • Deliver training to build legal awareness across the organisation.

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor (or equivalent) with at least 3 years’ PQE (much more experience welcomed!), ideally gained in-house.
  • Regulatory expertise is desirable; knowledge of UK consumer protection laws and data protection is preferred.
  • Excellent legal drafting and communication skills; ability to explain complex issues in plain English.
  • Experience with ADR services or Ombudsman schemes would be desirable.
  • Balance legal technical skills with commercial pragmatism.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and be the go-to person for quick legal guidance.
  • Clear communication with non-lawyers, attention to detail, and a genuine enjoyment of helping people solve problems.
