Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary operation, helping MPs and their staff build on their strengths and make the most of their time in Parliament. The role brings together three core elements: developing a tailored training and development programme to support MPs and their teams; analysing constituency and parliamentary data to highlight opportunities and showcase impact; and providing trusted, practical advice to MPs as they navigate the demands of parliamentary and constituency life.

You will play a key role in capturing and sharing best practice, turning insights into tools and guidance that make it easier for MPs to deliver effectively for their communities. Working closely with MPs and senior colleagues across Parliament and HQ, you will ensure that positive examples are amplified, challenges are addressed early, and innovation is embedded across the parliamentary party. This role offers a rare chance to combine political insight with people development, while making a tangible difference to how Liberal Democrat MPs demonstrate their impact.

This role offers an unparalleled network across MPs, parliamentary teams and the Liberal Democrats, a springboard into senior political, policy or campaigning leadership roles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the MP Incumbency Protection programme, making sure MPs have the tools and insight they need to succeed.
  • Work with colleagues across Parliament and HQ, including the Campaigns Team, LDHQ, IPSA and the Commons Whips Team, to provide MPs and their staff with clear, practical guidance.
  • Build strong relationships with MPs and their teams, offering day-to-day advice on regulation, office management and performance.
  • Develop and deliver training and development opportunities for MPs and staff, designed to share best practice and increase impact.
  • Collect and share examples of what works well, using case studies, data and performance insights to inspire improvement across the parliamentary party.
  • Track key performance measures and present findings in a clear and persuasive way to senior colleagues.

Person Specification

Essential
  • Excellent strategic and political judgement, with the ability to navigate complex environments confidently.
  • Outstanding communication skills, verbal, written and interpersonal, including experience influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver at pace.
  • A curious and analytical mindset, comfortable testing ideas, interpreting data, and drawing actionable insights.
  • A confident self-starter, capable of working independently as well as collaboratively.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused attitude and a track record of driving improvement and innovation.
Desirable
  • A strong understanding of the political landscape and the role of MPs.
  • Experience working with or within political offices, campaigns, or membership organisations.
  • Familiarity with the work of IPSA and the broader parliamentary framework.
  • Experience working with volunteers and building high-performing teams.
  • Sympathy with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats.
