Are you looking for a rewarding and interesting career in the public sector? Do you have a confident attitude and a keen eye for detail? Do want to work face to face within the community? If so, you might be the perfect fit for our Revenues Inspectorate team!
We are a growing business that provides visits and inspections to various local authority contracts in London. We need to expand our team of inspectors who are currently based in the Barnet area. We have a permanent post available for an enthusiastic individual who can work well within a busy and friendly environment as a Property Inspector.
As an Inspector, you will be responsible for arranging and conducting visits with residents and landlords in the Barnet area to undertake inspections to ensure that they are in the correct council tax banding. Initially you will work alongside an experienced inspector to gain insights and training for the role but once ready you will proactively manage your own portfolio of clients arranging the visits, carrying out the inspections and sending the documentation to the team in the office.
This role is field based with travel across the Barnet area so we are looking for someone who is able to drive and has access to their own transport. You will be able to arrange your own schedule conducting visits to properties and then working from home to complete the administrative tasks needed.
As part of our commitment to building an inclusive and diverse workforce, we would particularly welcome applications from people who are from Black, Asian and other ethnic minority backgrounds.
Job Description
What you’ll be doing:
- Regular inspections of domestic properties or sites that have been given planning permission and visiting commercial properties.
- Arranging own calendar to ensure that visits take place in a timely manner but also that all administrative tasks are completed
- Establishing liability or entitlement to tax discount, exemption or reliefs, in line with legislation and policy.
- Taking appropriate action where reliefs no longer apply.
- Arranging appointments with landlords, agents, business owners, etc to gain access to premises.
- Ensuring the database is accurate, complete and up-to-date.
- Liaising with other agencies
- A full driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Good written and numerical skills
- Computer literacy and ability to use handheld devices
- Enthusiasm, friendliness and confidence
- Initiative, self-motivation and accuracy
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Our world class Local Government Services team supports local councils to improve outcomes and focus on what matters in their communities. Managing tax and other revenue collection, benefits payments, building control support, IT networks, accounting and much more – we make it easier for council teams to concentrate on front line services.
Utilizing your Revenues knowledge, you will champion learning and development within our back offices, ensuring all aspects of employee development from new starter and upskill training through to ongoing support development.
What’s in it for you?
- A basic salary of £29,028
- Based in or close to the Barnet area
- 23 days’ holiday (rising to 27) with the opportunity to buy extra leave
- Based in the Barnet area with travel across the borough and some home working
- A hybrid role with the scope to plan and manage your own workload
- company matched pension, life assurance, a cycle2work scheme, 15 weeks’ fully paid maternity, adoption and shared parental leave, paternity pay of two weeks…and plenty more
- voluntary benefits designed to suit your lifestyle – from discounts on retail and socialising, to health & wellbeing, travel and technology
- the opportunity to take a paid day out of the office, volunteering for our charity partners or a cause of your choice
- access to our Employee Network Groups, which represent every strand of diversity and allow colleagues to connect and learn from each other on an open, inclusive platform
