Intelligence Research Officer – National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU)

Join the Environment Agency in a role focused on developing and delivering intelligence to support investigations, prioritise interventions, and remove unlawful operators from environmental crime regimes. The role sits within the Intelligence & Partnerships department and involves working with intelligence professionals to provide actionable intelligence products for colleagues and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Pro-actively develop and access intelligence from a range of sources to inform decision making.
  • Produce actionable intelligence products and research summaries for stakeholders.
  • Assist investigations and help prioritise interventions to tackle unlawful environmental activity.
  • Respond to incidents as part of the incident role, with training and arrangements provided to support incident work (may attract additional payment).
  • Communicate findings clearly and professionally to partners and internal teams.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience collecting and evaluating data from varied sources to produce or inform intelligence products.
  • Ability to interrogate IT systems and databases; enthusiasm and curiosity for finding information.
  • Strong IT skills with the ability to retrieve information accurately and efficiently.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to listen and transmit information effectively.
  • Ability to represent the Environment Agency professionally with a range of partners.
  • Ability to use own initiative and adapt approach as needed; capable of juggling multiple tasks and administrative activities.
  • Good team-working skills with an inclusive approach.

Location and Working Arrangements

Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working. Travel to Birmingham and Sheffield offices may be required on occasions.
