Overview

We are seeking an Intelligence Research Officer to join the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU) in a dynamic part of the business. The Environment Agency aims to be an intelligence-led organisation, with the ability to manage intelligence professionally and in line with current guidance to ensure threat, risk and harm are appropriately assessed and managed. Environmental crime is a strategic priority, and this role supports investigations and helps prioritise and drive interventions to remove unlawful operators from the waste regimes.

This role involves pro-actively developing and accessing intelligence from a range of sources to inform decision making and provide actionable intelligence products for our customers. Responsibilities

  • Pro-actively develop and access intelligence from a range of sources to inform decision making.
  • Provide actionable intelligence products to customers and support investigations.
  • Prioritise and drive forward interventions to remove unlawful operators from waste regimes.
  • Respond to incidents in a defined incident role and provide business continuity support during incidents.
  • Collaborate with intelligence professionals within the Environment Agency’s Intelligence & Partnerships department.

Experience / Skills Required

  • Experience collecting and evaluating data from multiple sources to produce or inform intelligence products; ability to interrogate IT systems and databases.
  • Enthusiasm and curiosity for finding information.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to listen and convey information effectively.
  • Ability to represent the Environment Agency professionally with partners.
  • Ability to use IT packages, retrieve information accurately, and switch between tasks as needed.
  • Strong team working skills with an inclusive approach.
  • Ability to work flexibly between tasks and support colleagues and customers with administrative activities.

Additional information

Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; occasional travel to Birmingham and Sheffield offices may be required.
