Overview

Intelligence Research Officer to join the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU) in a dynamic part of the Environment Agency. The role supports investigations, prioritises and drives interventions to remove unlawful operators from waste regimes, and delivers intelligence products to inform decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Pro-actively develop and access intelligence from a range of sources to inform decision making
  • Provide actionable intelligence products for customers and support investigations
  • Respond to incidents as part of a defined incident role; provide business continuity support during incidents (additional payment and full training available)
  • Help prioritise interventions to remove unlawful operators from environmental regimes
  • Collaborate with intelligence professionals within the Environment Agency’s Intelligence & Partnerships department, delivering intelligence assessments to colleagues

Experience and Skills / Qualifications

  • Experience in collecting and evaluating data from diverse sources to produce information or inform intelligence products; ability to interrogate IT systems and databases
  • Enthusiasm and curiosity for finding information
  • Good communication skills and ability to represent the Environment Agency professionally with partners
  • Ability to use own initiative and adapt approach as needed
  • Proficiency with standard IT packages and the ability to retrieve information accurately
  • Strong teamwork and an inclusive approach to working with colleagues
  • Ability to juggle multiple administrative tasks and flex between activities to support colleagues and customers

Additional Information

  • Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and Sheffield offices may be required occasionally
  • Interviews via Microsoft Teams are expected in September 2025
