Overview

We are seeking an Intelligence Research Officer to join the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU) in a dynamic part of the Environment Agency.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively develop and access intelligence from a range of sources to inform decision making.
  • Provide actionable intelligence products for customers and support investigations to remove unlawful operators from the waste regimes.
  • Respond to incidents as required, with incident role, business continuity support, and related training and arrangements.
  • Support the Environment Agency’s enforcement community across 14 geographical areas and national services.

Experience and qualifications

  • Experience collecting and evaluating data from a wide variety of sources to produce or inform intelligence products; ability to interrogate IT systems and databases; enthusiastic and curious about finding information.
  • Good communication, ability to work with partners, use initiative, and retrieve information accurately using standard IT packages.
  • Ability to work in a dispersed team; flexible working patterns including job share; security vetting checks (SC and NPPV3) required.

Additional information

  • Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; occasional travel to Birmingham and Sheffield.
  • Interviews via Microsoft Teams expected in September 2025.
