Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced, proactive and engaging Interaction Designer to work within the Planning Inspectorate's Digital Service Teams. You’ll be working with a multidisciplinary team to help deliver changes to citizen facing and internal digital and data services that will change the way the Planning Inspectorate delivers an excellent service for its customers. This role is a business critical, high-profile position within the Digital Services team, which is expanding to meet growing demands from colleagues, government and customers.

Job Description

You will work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary project team to analyse problems and outline and prototype designs to solve those problems, helping to ensure that services are user-focused and clear. You will help to ensure new ways of working are embraced and that services are delivered in line with project goals and delivery cycles. You will be an integral part of the digital team, maintaining design standards while improving processes, strategies, and methods.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to embed user-centred design practices and deliver continuous user research.
  • Apply Agile principles in practice.
  • Design interactions professionally for web and mobile in a range of design environments.
  • Demonstrate user-centred interaction design, including sketching and workable prototypes.
  • Prototype in HTML & CSS.
  • Use a wide range of design software (e.g., Sketch, Creative Suite).
  • Ensure digital services are accessible to all users, including those with low digital skills.
  • Utilise GOV.UK prototyping kit where appropriate.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams to embed user-centred design practices and deliver continuous user research.
  • Experience of applying Agile principles in practice.
  • Experience of designing interactions professionally for the web and mobile in a range of design environments.
  • Demonstrable experience of user-centred interaction design including sketching and workable prototypes.
  • Demonstrable experience of prototyping in HTML & CSS.
  • Experience with a wide range of design software (e.g., Sketch, Creative Suite).
  • Knowledge of accessibility guidelines and experience of ensuring that digital services are accessible to all users, including users with low digital skills.
  • Experience of using the GOV.UK prototyping kit.

Desirable

  • Experience designing GOV.UK services and the Government Service Standard.

Salary

Salary range for the Grade role is £36,396 - £39,424. New entrants to the Civil Service are expected to start on the minimum of the pay band; internal rules apply to existing Civil Servants. The highest applicable rule determines the salary.

Working Hours

Standard working week is 37 hours, with a flexible working hours policy available.

Office Attendance

This role is contractually based at Temple Quay House, Bristol, which is currently undergoing refurbishment. In the interim, there is access to alternative office space very close to Bristol Temple Meads railway station. We support hybrid working and can discuss in-person attendance based on business unit requirements.
