Overview

We are currently looking for an Interaction Designer to join our Digital & Service Design function within the Digital & Technology group.

This is a full‑time permanent position based in 7‑8 Wellington Place, Leeds, LS1 4AP. The role is available only to those who can work in the UK.

We work in a flexible, hybrid model – a minimum of 8 days per month on site is required, with up to 12 days depending on business needs; the remainder can be worked remotely.

A Digital Allowance of up to £12,823 per annum may be available for exceptional candidates based on our assessment of skills and experience. The allowance is non‑pensionable and may change annually.

Responsibilities

  • Design digital products and services using the Gov Design System, owning patterns and components used across projects in collaboration with the Senior Interaction Designer.
  • Provide design guidance and hands‑on interaction design for complex projects and portfolios within an agile development framework.
  • Use best practice and standards consistent with government.
  • Advise and support software engineers in the development of designs, iterating gov.uk patterns and components.
  • Work closely with service designers to gather and interpret evidence from service design walkthroughs and analysis, using this insight to design solutions and communicate sound rationale to stakeholders.
  • Work closely with user researchers to provide appropriate designs and prototypes, attend research sessions, discuss findings and use evidence to inform and iterate interaction designs.
  • Assist with application, presentation and interview stages as part of the hiring process.

Qualifications

  • Degree level or equivalent professional experience.
  • Previous experience working as an Interaction Designer within teams designing and delivering digital products and services.
  • Previous experience with a range of prototyping tools.
  • Previous experience working in an agile team.
  • Demonstrated ability in delivering high‑quality interaction designs with a user‑centred, evidence‑based approach.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for senior stakeholders and service owners.
