Overview

Interim Financial Accountant - High profile large charity - 4 month contract - Fully Remote - Day Rate

Client Details

The organisation is a respected not-for-profit entity committed to making a meaningful impact in its field.

Description

  • The role has arisen due to internal promotion opportunities against the general backdrop of a finance transformation programme and a rapidly growing overall organisation. The financial accounting team works very closely with the rest of finance, notably Financial Partnering, Planning & Analysis and Systems and Data, to be a true enabler to the organisation as it strives to end the devastation of dementia.
  • Within financial accounting, whilst we are very close to completing the previous year end activities, work continues on ensuring that we are in a good position for the next year end and making further steps towards the vision of finance being the charity's single point of truth.
  • Responsibilities in this period will include the delivery of certain projects (notably new SORP planning and implementation) as well as more business-as-usual activities (e.g., balance sheet reconciliations). The application of the principles of IFRS15 to a portfolio of contracts and IFRS16 to our lease arrangements will be key steps driven by this role to ensure our readiness for the new SORP
  • The position has no line management responsibilities, but we would expect the role to have lots of interaction across the finance teams and Society more widely

Profile

  • A successful Interim Financial Accountant: Technically strong qualified accountant, likely ACA. Direct experience of implementing major accounting standard changes (e.g., IFRS15, IFRS16) would be highly beneficial
  • Exposure to a larger corporate or charity environment - whether through audit or working in industry.
  • Some experience working in industry - charity experience is a definite positive but not essential
  • Understanding of what a good control framework should be and demonstrable experience of improving processes
  • Strong communication / influencing skills with the ability to see and articulate the bigger picture, but equally happy to get stuck into the detail and possesses the skills to do so
  • Team player, able to work readily across departmental and hierarchical boundaries and comfortable operating in an environment where ambiguity is the norm as undergoing significant business change
