Interim Product Counsel - Global Fintech - 6-Month Contract

My client is a globally recognised financial technology firm driving innovation in the payments space. They are seeking a talented Legal Counsel to join their Regulatory and Product team on a 6-month contract. This role will focus on providing legal support for the development of payment products and services, ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory requirements. Working closely with the Senior Legal Counsel and cross-functional teams, this is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a fast-growing, dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on legal and regulatory matters related to the development and launch of payment products and services.
  • Provide guidance on UK and EU payments regulations, licensing requirements, and risk management.
  • Support regulatory change management and ensure compliance with emerging fintech laws.
  • Collaborate with teams across Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Product to integrate regulatory requirements into business operations.
  • Assist in responding to regulatory inquiries and engaging with authorities.
  • Draft and review contracts, policies, and other legal documents related to payments and financial services.
  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory developments affecting the business.

Requirements

  • 7+ years PQE: Qualified lawyer with experience in financial services, either in-house or in private practice.
  • Payments & fintech expertise: Strong understanding of UK and European payments regulations, including PSD2, the Electronic Money Regulations, and FCA requirements.
  • Product development knowledge: Experience advising on product structuring, licensing, and regulatory compliance in a financial technology context.
  • Analytical & organisational skills: Ability to manage complex legal and regulatory issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communication & collaboration: Strong stakeholder management skills with a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
