Purpose
The Content Author is responsible for producing error-free, factually accurate assessments that align with the subject specification.
Core Services and Expectations
As a Pearson representative, you should maintain professional integrity at all times. Please:
- Act in a manner that will not bring Pearson, its employees, or its representatives into disrepute.
- Read all Pearson policies and guidance prior to undertaking contracted activities.
- Respect the confidentiality of centres and learners.
- Attend meetings or training sessions relevant to your role when requested by Pearson.
- Adhere to deadlines and ensure that all work is carried out to the best of your ability.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in a professional manner when carrying out services for Pearson.
- Have personal IT equipment capable of running Pearson software, with appropriate security and a suitable internet connection and secure email account.
- Communicate with Pearson and its centres in a timely manner when carrying out responsibilities.
- Raise concerns if you suspect malpractice, maladministration, or safeguarding issues.
Role-Specific Services and Expectations
In addition to Pearson's core expectations, the following role-specific services and expectations are required:
- Ensure assessment materials comply with the Global Content Policy, support accessibility, diversity, equality, inclusion, and sensitivity guidelines.
- Produce high-quality materials with sufficient coverage of assessment criteria as per guidelines.
- Ensure materials are appropriate to the range of ability and provide good discrimination and differentiation.
- Advise on subject specialist matters during production and provide feedback where necessary.
- Adhere to production schedules and update Pearson on availability that could affect deadlines.
- Demonstrate that any permitted combination of questions provides balanced content and assessment criteria where required.
- Produce materials that meet the required level of demand, are clear, fit for purpose, and error-free.
- Provide accurate sources and, where applicable, assist with copyright permissions.
- Ensure graphics, photographs, diagrams, or images are from reputable sources and error-free.
- Ensure that the nature and range of responses required by the mark scheme are appropriate.
- Comply with the current specification regarding duration, reading time, number of questions, and other rubric requirements.
- Avoid unnecessary repetition and ensure distractors do not reveal answers to other questions.
- Review, report, and clearly mark up comments; produce revised materials as required.
- Provide feedback on drafts and attend sign-off meetings when required.
- Update associated materials throughout production; sign off final assessment materials.
- Support, review, and agree on modified paper amendments as requested by Pearson.
Experience and Qualifications
Experience: You should have experience in, or be able to demonstrate, the following:
- Excellent communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of the specific content area (assessments and curriculum development).
- Proven ability to provide and co-ordinate training.
- Proven track record of leading quality assurance activities.
Qualifications: Qualifications required to apply depend on the qualification being delivered. Please contact Pearson if requirements are not clear. General qualifications (e.g., GCSE/A LEVEL) include:
