Java Application Architect – Legacy Modernization role at IBM.

Introduction IBM Consulting partners with clients worldwide to improve hybrid cloud and AI journeys. You will work with visionaries across industries to accelerate impact for clients using IBM platforms and ecosystems.

What You’ll Do

As an IBM Application Architect, you help clients transform their business and solve complex problems. You will define the scope and vision for projects delivering customized solutions using IBM platforms. You are a technical leader, liaising among business partners, technical resources, and stakeholders. The role focuses on delivery of Software Conversion projects using automated refactoring with CTU, including maintaining the Java support library, integrating new libraries, solution customization, and building automation around processes.

Responsibilities

  • Design Java solutions for modernizing legacy applications
  • Problem solving, including helping others
  • Write well designed, testable code
  • Deliver solutions within the fast-paced project lifecycle
  • Spend most time on technical/coding activities, with occasional team coaching
  • Development is performed mainly on Windows; CTU is built on Eclipse

This job can be performed from anywhere in the US.

Qualifications

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 7+ years of Java development experience
  • Experience with Java libraries (Spring Framework, Guava, Apache Commons, Guice/Dependency Injection, JPA)
  • Good SQL/ORM/Relational Databases knowledge
  • MVS/COBOL/JCL
  • Practical skills in CI/CD (Git, Maven, Gradle, Docker, Jenkins, Jira)
  • Good command of Test-Driven Development

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

  • Cloud / Kubernetes
  • Performance Tuning
  • Compilation technologies / ANTLR / XText

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree
