Journeyman Electrician – Massachusetts (Rhode Island a plus)
Commercial Solar Guy, a licensed General Contractor and Master Electrician–led company, is seeking a Massachusetts-licensed Journeyman Electrician (Rhode Island license a plus) to join our growing team. This is our first in-house technician hire; previously, all technical work was subcontracted. The role is hybrid, combining home-based work, field visits, and use of a company vehicle (take-home preferred).
Responsibilities
Operations & Maintenance (O&M) – 50% of hours
- Perform licensed electrical tasks to help close out construction projects efficiently.
- Provide field support for our developing O&M department (currently includes a part-time technician and partial manager).
- Assist in shaping a department that will ultimately service nearly 100 MW of solar capacity built over the past 15 years, plus tens of MW now under construction.
Construction Support (Secondary) – 50% of hours
- Our construction team has a strong Master Electrician guiding it, as well our Construction Project Manager supporting it. However, it is task oriented and needs a little more detailed
- Review drawings and ensure details are executed correctly.
- Verify that equipment, components, and permits are in place.
- Support a single commercial construction crew by addressing technical questions.
Conduct 1–2 site visits per week to photograph progress, confirm design adherence, and support the Construction Project Manager.
Position Growth
- Potential to transition into a Construction Project Manager role (expected need by late 2025).
- Opportunity to help expand and lead our O&M department as it scales.
- Becomes company's leading Master Electrician license to guide our own construction team.
Qualifications
Required
- Licensed Journeyman Electrician in Massachusetts
- OSHA 10/30 certification
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to learn and use solar testing equipment
- Competence with web browsers (with profiles), Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Gmail), and smartphone photo documentation
Preferred
- Master Electrician license
- Rhode Island or New Hampshire license
- NABCEP certification
- Solar installation/service experience
- Familiarity with inverters: SolarEdge, SMA, Enphase, Solectria, etc.
- Energy storage experience
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: Inflation-adjusted; currently $90,163.06/year (equal pay structure across all roles).
- Construction Commission: Semiannual bonus (June/July & December) to ensure total pay equals at least $100,000/year.
- Work from Home Reimbursement: $600/month tax-free stipend for home office expenses (internet, laptop, desk, chair, workspace).
- Profit Sharing: When the company does well, employees share in the success—employee pay is our best investment.
- Vacation: Three weeks a year, plus a 'non-work' week of Thanksgiving, and the same for a week around the Christmas/New Years window.
