Overview
Working in AtkinsRéalis, this is a fantastic opportunity to join our growing and talented team of Utility Consultants. As part of our Utility Solutions capability, you will support a broad client base with multi‑utility consultancy services, helping them effectively plan and execute construction projects. Working to a high level of accuracy, the role covers all aspects of Utility Consultancy: understanding onsite constraints, procuring, planning diversionary works, arranging connections to new developments, and managing projects from feasibility through to build and implementation.
The successful candidate will be a natural networker, working alongside our business development teams to grow and expand client relationships.
Your Role
- Interpret client utility requirements and understand scheme drawings.
- Present client schemes to relevant utilities and procure costs and designs for various utility works.
- Review client proposals and consider the impact on existing utility assets.
- Support the delivery of multiple projects, engaging with utilities to ensure project milestones are met.
- Assist Utility Consultants with larger, complex projects.
- Write detailed, accurate reports.
- Coordinate utility works on behalf of clients, ensuring completion in line with client programmes.
- Undertake NRSWA C1‑C9 processes.
- Perform coordination of technical aspects of utility works between the client and utility companies.
- Advise clients on ways to minimise risks arising from utility matters.
- Liaise with utility companies regarding the acquisition of easement and wayleave information.
- Take on both internal and external projects, initially working with a mentor and eventually working independently.
- Complete training guides/tracker to the satisfaction of the consultancy manager.
- Engage with clients directly via email and telephone.
- Answer team phone calls when unavailable.
- Work towards becoming a technical “checker” for department deliverables.
- Maintain an understanding of the UCS inbox and regularly seek new projects to complete your training guide/tracker.
- Assist in writing fee proposals and scopes as an Assistant Managing Consultant.
About You Essential Criteria
- Experience working in a project environment.
- Ability to effectively correspond with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Desire to develop an understanding of the UK utility market and regulatory framework.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and associated applications.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in the technical aspects of utility works, including loading calculations, network reinforcement and design.
- Experience in a utility procurement and management role or background as a house builder or developer.
- Understanding or experience of working in the engineering industry.
- Detailed knowledge of prescribed processes for procuring utility works.
- Report‑writing experience.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and GIS/drawing software.
- Equivalent of CSCS (e.g., EUSR) card holder for site operative or regular site visitor level.
- Other relevant qualifications.
