Position Overview

Abbeyfield Living Society is seeking a highly motivated Junior Solicitor to join our Legal & Governance team. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified solicitor who is passionate about housing, care, and governance, and looking to develop their expertise within a values-driven charity.

Key Details

  • Location: Remote – Home Based
  • Salary: £35,300 - £42,300 per annum
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Hours: 35 hours a week

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, accurate legal advice across property, housing, care, contractual, governance and data protection matters.
  • Draft and review a variety of contracts and legal documents, including those with local authorities and the NHS.
  • Conduct legal research, prepare reports and Board papers, and maintain clear and accurate records.
  • Support residential and commercial property matters, including acquisitions, disposals, business transfers and lease assignments.
  • Draft and review leases, tenancies and related documentation.
  • Maintain transaction logs and ensure up-to-date progress tracking.
  • Assist with matters such as anti-social behaviour, possession cases, debt recovery, inquests, and property-related disputes.
  • Review and draft care and housing contracts, frameworks, and service agreements.
  • Support responses to complaints and data protection requests.
  • Work closely with the Head of Governance & Company Secretary to plan, coordinate and support Board and Committee meetings.
  • Maintain governance registers, policies and regulatory records.
  • Support compliance with the Charity Commission, RSH and CQC.
  • Assist with budgeting, invoice management, filing systems and general administrative tasks.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales).
  • Minimum 1 year PQE in housing and/or social care law.
  • Experience in property transactional work.
  • Strong understanding of data protection principles and governance requirements.
  • Excellent drafting, analytical and communication skills.
  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and legal document management systems.
  • A collaborative, proactive and solutions-focused approach.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience within the charity sector.
  • Previous support to Boards or Committees.
  • Knowledge of charity law and regulation (Charity Commission, RSH, CQC).
  • Interest in developing charity governance expertise.
