About Mytos

Mytos is building machines to automate human cell production—the most manual process in Biotech. We’re live in multibillion-dollar biotechs on both coasts of the US, backed by Y Combinator, and have raised $19m to expand into the market faster. Our goal is to accelerate cure development and bring therapies to patients sooner.

The Role

As a Junior/Mid level Software Engineer (depending on experience) you’ll contribute across our full-stack product based in the Cloud and our IoT devices that interface with Mytos hardware to manufacture cells. You’ll work across technologies and paradigms to research, design, implement, maintain, and evolve product functionality, giving users powerful tools to customise and monitor cell growth protocols. Your work will directly impact how quickly and effectively new therapies and research tools can be developed, ultimately helping patients worldwide.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate closely with other engineers to deliver end-to-end product functionality spanning experiment scheduling, automated image analysis, and remote operation of our devices.
  • Develop and improve frontend applications using TypeScript, React, and GraphQL to create intuitive interfaces for complex biological workflows.
  • Build backend services that communicate with our hardware systems and ensure data integrity throughout the cell manufacturing process.
  • Collaborate across disciplines with hardware engineers, biologists, and commercial teams to build reliable and effective systems in record time.
  • Learn and contribute to our testing methods to deliver quality software at speed.
  • Contribute to architecture and infrastructure, system performance, and distributed system challenges.
  • Write code with immediate real-world impact: testing on prototype machines in our lab.
  • Up-skill in domains outside software engineering, including lab operations and stem cell nuances.
  • Enjoy autonomy and ownership of product problems and technical solutions addressing customer needs.

What We're Looking For

  • Early in your software career with a desire to grow quickly
  • Demonstrated technical promise in studies or work
  • Interest in tackling difficult technical challenges in a field advancing scientific discovery
  • Self-starter attitude with a drive for quality work
  • Care and compassion for customers and colleagues
  • Experience with full-stack web development using TypeScript or other typed languages
  • Experience with modern frontend frameworks (React preferred)
  • Experience with backend development and API design (Node.js preferred)
  • Experience with databases (PostgreSQL and Prisma or similar ORM experience ideal)

Our Technologies

  • Frontend (Netlify): React, TypeScript, GraphQL, Storybook
  • Backend (AWS & Heroku): NodeJS, TypeScript, GraphQL, MQTT, PostgreSQL, Python, Pulumi IaC
  • Physical Device (on-premise): NodeJS, TypeScript, FastAPI, Python, MQTT
  • Firmware: C++, GTest, GMock, Bazel, Platformio

Nice-to-Haves

  • Understanding of distributed systems concepts
  • Experience with Python for data processing or image analysis
  • Background or interest in biology, lab automation, or scientific instrumentation
  • Experience with regulated environments (GMP, HIPAA, etc.)
  • Experience with UI/product design processes and tools (wireframes, mockups, prototypes)

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • Impact: Your work enables production of cell therapies that can transform patients’ lives
  • Growth: Solve complex problems at the intersection of software, hardware, and biology
  • Autonomy: Shape our approach to GMP readiness with cross-disciplinary support
  • Team: Collaborate with engineers and scientists in a diverse, innovative environment

Salary and Benefits

  • Competitive salary with stock options
  • Collaborative team environment with high learning potential
  • 32 days holiday (bank holidays, end-of-year closure, and 21 days discretionary PTO)
  • Workspace in the Imperial College Innovation hub, White City
  • In-person culture with daily team meals when in office
  • Flexible working with core hours (10am–4pm) to support collaboration
  • Hybrid working (typically 2–3 days on-site per week)
  • Competitive pension scheme with tax-efficient salary sacrifice option

We’re building a team that moves fast, learns from mistakes, and solves real-world problems. No GMP experience? No problem — we welcome motivated candidates to contribute in a regulated space with innovative solutions.

We currently do not sponsor visas for junior roles.
