Job Overview
We seek a Key Account Manager with expertise in business strategy and sustainability, strong relationship skills, and a consultative approach. This role involves attracting new businesses, deepening engagement with existing members, and inspiring companies to drive sustainable systems transformations. The candidate will tailor WBCSD’s value proposition to ambitious European companies, ensuring their needs are met. Success means a growing, engaged member base driving net-zero, nature-positive, and equitable solutions. Curiosity, adaptability, and the ability to network and convey WBCSD’s value are essential.
Responsible for engaging more companies from the region in WBCSD, the successful candidate will help to identify and close recruitment efforts in the region. This will include building on existing relationships, building on leads from prospecting materials, and working with our members, and our global network partners.
The successful person will also build our profile with businesses across the region, taking a key area of focus such as climate action or financial institutions. This will be done by representing WBCSD at key events in the region, and by working with our regional, marketing and digital teams to ensure that messages are delivered to target audiences at the right time.
Main Responsibilities
- Builds and maintains trust and good quality relationships with multinational company representatives and ensures coordinated interfaces between WBCSD colleagues and the companies.
- Understands the strategic priorities and challenges of companies, monitors company’s strategic outlook, insights, latest news, etc.
- Collects, updates and maintains prospect data and information, tracks evolution of relationships including organizational changes, key contacts etc.
- Nurtures prospects and engages members with appropriate and compelling content and event opportunities, to close prospects.
- Works with members to identify opportunities for leadership & engagement, ensures members are aware of value add and all information relevant to their engagement.
- Ensures the upselling of value within the member company organization
- Has a good understanding of business and climate action, and/or financial institutions.
Qualifications, skills and experience
- Master’s degree in a business, commercial or related degree preferred, with at least minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience of which 5 in a sales position.
- Interest in Sustainability and the role businesses can take to address the world most pressing challenges.
- Proven experience in sales/key account management and value selling, with experience in providing consultative solutions based on customer needs.
- Business acumen and understanding of corporate strategy and how sustainability represents its backbone for execution.
- Understands how to navigate large corporations and works across multiple interfaces to build up to desired outcomes.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a strong ability in problem-solving and negotiation and an aptitude in building relationships with professionals of all organizational levels.
- Previous experience working with multidisciplinary project teams on an international basis, effectively managing different languages, time zones, and cultural sensitivities would be advantageous.
- Evidence of successfully aligning different stakeholders and the ability to create effective relationships with new partners or stakeholders. Capacity to be assertive and take initiative when appropriate.
- Outstanding prioritization, time, project management, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and ad hoc demands simultaneously.
- Skilled in setting priorities, effectively utilizing resources, addressing problems, meeting deadlines, and maintaining attention to detail while working under pressure and keeping a strategic perspective.
- Extremely strong written and verbal skills in English is essential. Other European languages are valued.
The position is full time and is based in London or Amsterdam and will also require international travel with flexibility.
