Job Overview
The Children and Families Department of Nottinghamshire County Council operates an approach called "Our Nottinghamshire Approach" to support children, young people, families and partner agencies. We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and team‑oriented Kinship Family Worker to join our Kinship Support Service.
Responsibilities
Working alongside social workers, family workers and welfare rights officers, you will:
- Support birth parents in understanding the journey that led to their child living outside the care system.
- Assist birth parents with family time arrangements and empower them to maintain a relationship with their child.
- Advocate for birth parents while working in partnership with colleagues who advocate for kinship carers.
- Provide emotional and practical support, using creative thinking to help families navigate complex feelings and challenges associated with kinship arrangements.
- Maintain confidentiality, record, report‑write and use IT skills to support case management.
- Work independently and as an effective team member, taking initiative and contributing to team development.
Qualifications
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Relevant experience working with children and families.
- Skills in mediation, supporting family time, managing conflict and difficult situations.
- Understanding of family relationships, identity and the importance of kinship links.
- Ability to record, report‑write and use relevant IT applications.
