Job Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and team‑oriented individual to join the Kinship Support Service as a kinship family worker. This team has been established in October 2022 and supports children and families living within kinship arrangements. The role will focus on birth parents, rely on creative thinking, and provide emotional and practical support to help families cope with the complex feelings and challenges associated within kinship arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside social workers, family workers and welfare rights officers supporting kinship carers and children.
  • Support birth parents around understanding the journey that led to their child living outside of their care.
  • Support birth parents with family time arrangements, empowering them to maintain a relationship with their child.
  • Advocate for birth parents alongside colleagues who will be advocating for kinship carers.
  • Provide recording, report‑writing and IT skills, working to own initiative and as an effective member of a team.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise excellent communication skills.
  • Apply mediation skills, support family time, manage conflict and difficult situations, and understand the importance of family relationships and identity.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Relevant experience working with children and families.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Skills in mediation, supporting family time, managing conflict and difficult situations, and understanding family relationships and identity.
  • Strong recording, report‑writing and IT skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Interest in the kinship world and enthusiasm for supporting change.
