Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and team‑oriented individual to join the Kinship Support Service as a kinship family worker. This is a team, established in October 2022, supporting children and families living within kinship arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside social workers, other family workers and welfare rights officers supporting kinship carers and children.
  • Support birth parents with understanding the journey that led to their child living outside of their care, family‑time arrangements, and empowering them to maintain a relationship with their child.
  • Advocate for birth parents alongside colleagues who advocate for kinship carers.
  • Provide emotional and practical support, using creative thinking to help families cope with the complex feelings and challenges associated with kinship arrangements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and record, report‑writing, and IT skills.
  • Work independently and as an effective member of a team, using initiative.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Relevant experience working with children and families.
  • Experience or skills in mediation, supporting family‑time, managing conflict and difficult situations, and understanding family relationships and identity.
  • Strong record‑keeping, report writing, and IT skills.
  • Interest in the kinship world and enthusiasm for supporting change.
