Role Description
This is a contract role for a Laboratory Operations Specialist. The specialist will manage lab operations, including asset management, equipment maintenance, procurement, and waste management. Additional responsibilities include overseeing lab moves and centralization, handling vendor selection, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The role is hybrid, based in Greater Boston, with some tasks potentially completed from home.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a science-related discipline
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in laboratory operations, lab management, or research support in a biotech/pharma environment
- Strong understanding of common lab practices, aseptic techniques, and shared resource models
- Proficiency in inventory management and lab tracking systems (experience with LIMS or similar software is a plus)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to interact effectively across teams
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (occasionally) and work on your feet for extended periods (60–90% of shift)
- Adaptable, self-motivated, and comfortable in a fast-changing, team-oriented environment
- Experience supporting operational improvement or lab setup projects is preferred
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations, ensuring smooth functioning across multiple teams and projects
- Manage chemical and equipment inventory systems, including ordering, labeling, tracking, and disposal coordination
- Collect, wash, sterilize, and redistribute glassware and labware according to lab protocols
- Prepare routine buffers, media, and other common solutions used across functional teams; sterilize media as required
- Support lab organization and efficiency projects such as equipment relocation, new lab setup, and workflow optimization
- Ensure laboratory spaces remain clean, organized, and compliant with internal safety and documentation standards
- Serve as point of contact for operational needs between US Lab Partners, site teams, and vendors
- Provide technical and operational support for laboratory instrumentation, maintenance, and calibration scheduling
- Participate in or lead operational improvement initiatives that reduce downtime, waste, or manual overhead
- Monitor lab use trends and anticipate future needs for equipment, supplies, and space
- Assist with coordinating service providers and external contractors
