Experienced Lead Construction Assurance Engineer to play a pivotal role in ensuring our contractors deliver infrastructure projects to the highest standards of time, quality, and cost.
This is a critical leadership position where you will manage your portfolio of projects and guide a team of engineers through the design, construction, and commissioning phases. Your expertise will ensure all work is buildable, compliant, efficient, and aligned with regulatory and statutory requirements, maximizing value for Thames Water and our customers.
What you’ll be doing as a Lead Construction Assurance Engineer
- Ensure compliance with quality and environmental requirements in asset design and delivery, monitor delivery performance, and collaborate with contractors to address issues and improve.
- Ensure compliance with current CDM regulations.
- Engage with Asset Management and Operations, identify synergies, and utilize lessons learned from previous projects to influence effective designs or solutions.
- Work with design teams and contractors to resolve issues promptly, minimizing impacts on the programme and cost.
- Assist design teams (contractors and internal) with practical, buildable solutions to meet the project brief.
- Verify and approve (assure) contractor project plans (Project Delivery Plan) and pre-construction materials, escalating shortfalls promptly to ensure Start on Site is not compromised.
- Liaise with Operations and contractors to approve passing through key milestones, focusing on Start on Site and Construction Complete.
- Monitor and approve Take Over tests from Construction Complete where required.
- Manage Takeovers comprehensively.
- Coach and develop team capability to maintain a challenging assurance culture, enabling engineers to review and advise project PMs on issues and potential resolutions.
Hybrid role based in London and the Home Counties, in the Thames Water area. You are expected to be on-site 3-4 days a week, working 36 hours from Monday to Friday.
The successful candidate must have a valid driving license and access to a car, with a car allowance of £4,500 per year.
What you should bring to the role
- Chartered Engineer or substantial experience in a similar role.
- NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate.
- Significant experience in construction practices within water/wastewater industries.
- Strong problem-solving skills supporting complex solutions.
- Proven track record with Wastewater and Potable Water Infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of infrastructure development, construction, and operational phases.
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of construction practices.
