Lead Data Architect

Location: UK - 3 days in office - Central London

Reports to: Chief Data Officer

Salary: Up to £100,000

About the Role

I am seeking a seasoned an experienced Data Architect to lead the Data Engineering function while providing data architecture expertise across the wider business. This role blends hands-on technical leadership with strategic oversight, ensuring the data platforms are stable, scalable, and fit for future growth.

You will have overall responsibility for the line management, wellbeing, and development of the Data Engineering team, while also acting as the principal data architect - with a primary focus on the analytics platform and its integration with broader business applications.

This is a critical leadership role requiring deep technical expertise, data modelling excellence, and the gravitas to take ownership, drive delivery, and engage confidently with senior stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and manage the Data Engineering team, ensuring their wellbeing, growth, and day-to-day delivery.
• Own and evolve the data architecture across the analytics platform and wider business applications.
• Lead on data modelling, with a strong emphasis on Data Vault methodology.
• Assess and improve existing data models, ensuring scalability, performance, and alignment with business needs.
• Oversee the design and delivery of robust data pipelines, models, and integrations.
• Bring experience in Snowflake and modern data engineering approaches to advance their platform.
• Partner with business leaders to understand requirements and translate them into architectural and engineering solutions.
• Support both greenfield initiatives (new platform design) and enhancements to existing large-scale platforms.

Skills & Experience Required

• Proven leadership experience managing and developing high-performing data engineering teams.
• Strong expertise in Snowflake and modern data engineering practices.
• Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with Data Vault modelling.
• Strong background as a Data Architect with end-to-end experience designing, building, and optimising data platforms.
• Solid engineering foundation: expertise in building data pipelines, data models, and scalable architectures.
