Are you an experienced ecologist looking to make a real impact across large-scale infrastructure projects? A major utilities provider is seeking a Lead Ecologist to join their Capital Delivery team, where you will play a pivotal role in integrating ecological best practices throughout the project lifecycle. From preliminary design to final completion, you will be responsible for ensuring environmental risks are identified, assessed, and managed, with a strong focus on sustainability and biodiversity net gain.
This role will see you working closely with multidisciplinary teams, reviewing contractor submissions, including ecology surveys and biodiversity assessments, and acting as the main point of contact for ecological matters across projects. Your expertise will help shape proactive approaches to ecological walkovers, protected species management, and compliance with legislation, while also supporting strong relationships with regulators, stakeholders, and environmental partners.
You will bring a solid academic background in ecology or a related discipline, in-depth knowledge of protected species and ecological regulations, and hands-on experience using the Biodiversity Metric. Confidence in engaging with both internal and external stakeholders is essential, and membership of CIEEM is preferred. Prior experience in the utilities or infrastructure sector would be a strong advantage.
In return, you'll benefit from a competitive salary of up to £58,000, a generous holiday allowance that increases with service, a market-leading pension contribution scheme, personal medical assessments, and access to a wide range of flexible benefits to support your wellbeing and work-life balance.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high-profile organisation where your work will help shape the future of sustainable infrastructure while protecting and enhancing the natural environment.
