This opportunity is for a recently qualified or experienced Design Engineer to develop customer projects into detailed design packs to be delivered in accordance with current conditions, policies and standards. To enable us to fully deliver our projects we are looking for an innovative Design Engineer to work client-side on HV projects from initial concept and feasibility through to procurement specification, construction and commissioning. The Lead Designer for Infrastructure & Energy projects for Electricity North West Construction & Maintenance Ltd.’s customer networks up to and including 132kV will manage and oversee all aspects of design (from outline to detail) during the project life including design, planning, approval, construction, commissioning and final handover.
Location: Blackburn and/or Middlesbrough with a Customer Side HV/MV Project Electrical Design Engineer role for wide and challenging projects in the North of England. The role supports projects initially based in Blackburn and/or Middlesbrough. Benefits include flexible working arrangements and a supportive team.
What you’ll look for in a candidate:
- Hold an HNC or Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (or equivalent) preferably with a bias towards Power Engineering
- Good understanding of Low Voltage & High Voltage electrical principles and theory
- Understanding of distribution network design including voltage drop calculations, earth loop impedance, and protection knowledge is advantageous
- Knowledge of electrical engineering design software and practices (e.g. ETAP, DigSilent, SafeGrid & Trimble Power)
Your career interests may include:
- Design & Construction of High Voltage Private Networks
- Grid Support Generation technologies including Battery Energy Storage Systems, Gas Peaking & Grid Scale Solar Projects
- Implementing Fuel Cell technologies into Private Distribution networks
- Large Private Wire Distribution network development and management
- High Voltage Protection & control together with automation of Network assets
Other qualifications and attributes:
- Understand Construction Design Management regulations relating to Electrical infrastructure projects
- Some understanding of the construction industry and Electricity North West (Construction & Maintenance) Limited role
- Be self-driven, able to work under pressure to meet targets
- Capable of handling high volumes of work in a productive manner
- Customer-facing attitude and collaborative mindset
- Flexible and adaptable, with good team working and interpersonal skills
- Excellent IT skills, good analytical reasoning (MS Office)
- Excellent communication skills and good organisation
