Role Overview
The Lead Engineer is a key role within a Software or Data Engineering sub-community, providing technical leadership and guidance to Engineers across all squads. You will work to deliver and maintain production-ready, secure, stable, and performant code in line with TVG Engineering standards in a DevSecOps manner. You lead by example and participate in software design, coding, reviews, testing, and debugging. You will solve challenging technical problems and drive software engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement within the sub-community across all squads you work with.
Scope of Role
- Leadership: technical mentor to Software/Data Engineers, empower them to excel, champion adoption of TVG SDLC standards, reusable components, and collaboration on technical roadmaps with Engineering Managers and Architects.
- Contribute to a high-performing software engineering team and foster a positive, inclusive culture with collaboration, open communication, and knowledge sharing.
- Play a leading role in software technology selection for the squads you work with.
- This role is a technical expert and leader rather than a people manager, with potential task management responsibilities.
Nature and Area of Impact
- Collaborate with peers in other sub-communities and technology leaders to advance TVG's tech landscape in alignment with current standards and policies.
- Proactively identify cost optimization opportunities and ensure technology is appropriately sized.
About You
- Significant experience delivering software solutions in lean, agile, DevSecOps environments, in a senior or leadership role.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages, frameworks, and modern software engineering tooling.
- Experience providing clear technology leadership, direction, and decision-making for a team.
- Experience building, integrating, maintaining, and managing complex software architectures (build and bought), ideally across multi-cloud environments.
- Experience building software applications with security, reliability, scalability, high availability, and concurrency built-in from the outset.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Comfortable sharing stories internally and externally to build The Very Group brand and credibility to attract and retain talent.
