3 days per week (22.5 hours) per week, The role is for a fixed 12 month term and is suitable for secondment.

The City of York Council, York Learning Community Education department needs an appropriately qualified and experienced, results-oriented person to deliver externally funded employability projects. The role comprises confidential 1-1 and small group support at West Offices and in community settings. The person must be able to deliver small group workshops, which engage hard to reach clients to develop confidence, support wellbeing, and progress to employment and/or further learning.

Our projects are target based and outcome focused, supporting economically inactive adults (and a small number of employed people). The role extends to duties in our wider IAG delivery team.

The post holder must have exceptional communication skills and be able to engage with clients with barriers, including mental and physical health conditions, neuro-divergence, social isolation, carer duties, and NEET.

Where necessary, the person needs to be able to advise and refer for functional skills development, and signpost to relevant agencies, on a range of personal issues, eg financial, housing, etc.

The role requires a sound knowledge of employability, eg CVs, interview skills, transferable skills, job search and job applications, and digital skills. The person must be able to motivate individuals to address challenges to securing and sustaining work, and to set goals and take action.

Must be able to liaise with appropriate stakeholders to develop and facilitate a fully client-centred support network.

Strong inter-personal skills are essential to this post, as well as excellent recording and administration skills to meet specific project requirements. Must be committed to achieving monthly targets and gain evidence of outcomes.

The post is fixed term for 12 months.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.

Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
