Your role
Working as part of a central team of 7this role is to provide support and coordination to multiple teams within the Lifesaving Operations department and contribute to ongoing service improvements. Working as part of these teams to take ownership of and complete work on their behalf; you’ll engage and collaborate with RNLI volunteers and staff, providing a high level of support to the delivery of our lifesaving services.
What you’ll be doing
This is a great opportunity to develop and maintain a well-rounded knowledge of our operational teams and lifesaving services, along with developing more specialist expertise long term in order to provide guidance, coordination and support to volunteers, staff, external partners and members of the public.In this role, you will:
- Work closely with the Central Operations and Information Room managers to help provide this critical 24/7/365 function; taking and actioning calls from the coast, recording key information, providing reporting to the wider organisation and fulfil a range of core tasks on their behalf.
- Provide additional capacity to a wide range of teams within the Lifesaving Operations department; adapting to their working practices and maintaining knowledge of their processes and systems in order to work as part of the team when needed.
- Learn all about our navigational aids, particularly the paper charts, in order to manage core functions and provide support and guidance to our Lifeboat Stations.
- Use a wide range of standard and bespoke IT systems; developing expertise across the full range in order to help maintain sites and systems and provide training and support to others.
- Spend a lot of time communicating with a wide range of people, providing excellent customer service and upholding both the reputation of the team internally as well as the RNLI’s reputation externally.
- Work both independently and as part of a team; balancing the ability to use initiative and take full ownership of tasks with the ability to collaborate effectively and support colleagues to achieve broader objectives.
- Be incredibly flexible, adapting from team to team as needed to fulfil priorities; multitasking to switch quickly between different areas of knowledge and processes.

- Strong IT skills, particularly MS Office and/or a natural aptitude in this area.
