Job Summary
The Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Locum Consultant in general Endocrinology and Diabetes for a 12‑month fixed term contract. The role is based solely at the Great Western Hospital site in Swindon, with opportunities to work remotely. The post includes an 18‑bed specialist and general medical ward, covered on a rota of 1 month in 4, with GIM on call currently 1:16 weekdays and approximately 1:8 weekends.
Key Responsibilities
- Inpatient Diabetes inpatient and outpatient clinic duties, including a Hot Diabetes Clinic.
- Conduct general Diabetes and Endocrine clinics, Thyrotoxicosis clinic and participate in monthly Diabetes and Endocrine/Radiology MDT meetings.
- Ward cover in 4 monthly rotas and provide dedicated virtual clinic time to review results from investigations.
- Manage multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings locally and with Oxford MDTs (adrenal, pituitary, and general endocrinology).
- Provide GPs advice and guidance via the Cinapsis electronic platform.
- Participate in quality improvement, continuing medical education and teaching/supervision via the Undergraduate Academy.
- Support the Clinical Lead in policy and strategy development, contribute to service leadership and cost‑effective resource utilisation within Trust policy.
- Lead in risk management, develop clinical policies, supervise junior colleagues and participate in departmental/trust‑wide teaching programmes.
Person Specification – Qualifications
- Fully registered with the GMC.
- CCT (or equivalent) in Endocrine & Diabetes and GIM, or within 6 months of CCT at interview.
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
Person Specification – Clinical Experience
- Clinical training/experience equivalent to UK CCT requirements.
- Expertise in full range of Endocrine & Diabetes conditions.
- Ability to lead a multi‑professional team and assume independent responsibility for clinical care.
- Supported sub‑speciality interests aligned with departmental needs.
