Machine Learning Specialist (Computer Vision & Object Detection)

New Today

Profile:

Safe Intelligence is on a mission to make AI safe and reliable for anyone to use. We are looking for Machine Learning Specialists to help customers with ML validation challenges and to provide insights to drive our product forward, especially for high-stakes computer vision problems.

The role focuses on ML-based computer vision in high-stakes applications in Aviation, Mobility, Robotics and Edge Devices, with emphasis on object detection and tracking. It involves customer and user-facing work on real-world problems to help ML teams improve model quality, while collaborating with Safe Intelligence R&D to improve our tools based on domain challenges.

Previous contributions to state-of-the-art machine vision models including object detectors are required. Knowledge of ML verification is not required, but a solid knowledge of testing practices, metrics, state-of-the-art training and validation methods is essential.

We’re excited to have you on board!

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with customers and end-users to understand their machine vision models and assess performance, including R&D and product teams at customer organizations in Aviation, Mobility, Robotics, and Edge Devices.
  • Prototype, implement use cases, and solutions applying Safe Intelligence methods to address user-specific problems in deep validation and robustness for machine vision in the target domains.
  • Conduct experiments to evaluate approaches and weigh trade-offs.
  • Coordinate with research and platform teams to guide future development based on use-case challenges.
  • Contribute to developing an efficient and scalable package for verification and robust learning.

Requirements

  • Scientific and Engineering contributions to key machine vision problems (e.g., object detection or tracking), typically evidenced via first-author papers in top computer vision conferences (CVPR, ICCV, ECCV).
  • In-depth experience in training, evaluating, and deploying state-of-the-art machine vision models, including architectures such as YOLO, Vision Transformer, and Eva.
  • Experience communicating with stakeholders to understand requirements and guide what is and is not possible in a model.
  • Proficiency in Python and data science/machine learning libraries (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Familiarity with ML workflows and MLOps tooling.
  • Fluency with validation and evaluation metrics frameworks (e.g., Accuracy, Recall, F1, IoU).

Additional beneficial experience

  • Experience in the Aviation, Mobility, Edge Devices, and/or Robotics industries.
  • Experience deploying ML solutions in industrial real-world settings.

Personal qualities

  • Passionate about helping engineering teams achieve AI/ML goals.
  • Comfortable and energized in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excited about collaborating to solve problems.
  • Technically curious and committed to continuous learning.
  • Clear and efficient communication with developers, customers, researchers, partners, and executives.
  • Hands-on and execution-driven, with a solid software engineering mindset.
  • Familiar with modern software engineering processes.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and capable of driving clarity.
  • Collaborative and respectful of teammates.
  • Honest, straightforward, and considerate of others’ well-being.
