We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead a distributed team of 13 engineers and QA professionals across the UK (5) and Bangalore (8) in building next-generation Identity platform applications. This is a management-focused role (80% management, 20% hands-on technical) requiring a leader who can scale teams, drive technical excellence, and navigate complex international development challenges.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing distributed engineering teams, strong technical depth in modern web technologies, and excellent cross-cultural communication skills. You’ll be responsible for team growth, delivery excellence, stakeholder management, and removing technical and organizational blockers to enable your team's success.
What You’ll Be Doing
Team Leadership & Management (80%)
- Lead and mentor a team of 13 engineers and QA professionals across UK and Bangalore
- Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning
- Manage hiring, onboarding, and talent development across both locations
- Lead technical interviews and participate in the broader engineering hiring process
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive culture across time zones and cultural differences
- Drive team productivity through effective project management and Agile/Scrum practices
- Manage external dependencies and coordinate with stakeholders across the EMEA region
- Provide escalation support and unblock technical and organizational challenges
- Establish and track team performance metrics and delivery goals
- Facilitate cross-team collaboration and knowledge sharing
Technical Leadership (20%)
- Contribute to architectural decisions and technical strategy for Identity and Access Management (IAM) web applications
- Participate in code reviews and maintain technical standards
- Occasionally implement critical features or provide technical guidance on complex problems
- Collaborate with UX and product teams to refine features and ensure excellent user experience
- Work with backend teams to design API interfaces and system integrations
- Ensure security best practices and maintain legacy React-based UIs
- Debug production issues across the PingForgeRock Identity Cloud platform
Operational Excellence
- Drive continuous improvement in development processes and team efficiency
- Manage project timelines, resource allocation, and delivery commitments
- Coordinate releases and maintain high-quality standards across the platform
- Champion engineering best practices and industry standards
Requirements
Management & Leadership
- 3+ years of engineering management experience, preferably with distributed teams
- Experience managing teams across different time zones and cultures
- Strong project management skills with proficiency in Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Proven track record of hiring, developing, and retaining engineering talent
- Experience with performance management and career development
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Technical Background
- 5+ years of software development experience with modern web technologies
- Strong foundation in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and web application development
- Experience with React.js, Vue.js, Angular, or similar modern frameworks
- Understanding of authentication, authorization, and identity management systems
- Knowledge of RESTful services, CORS, SSL/TLS, and security protocols
- BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
Nice To Have
- Experience managing teams in India or other international locations
- Knowledge of application security practices (OWASP Top 10)
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms
- Understanding of multiple application architectures (SPA, SSR, microservices)
- Familiarity with identity and access management at enterprise scale
- Experience with web accessibility standards
