The Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (MEICA) Engineering Planner Advisor role is vital to the effective running of our flood risk pumping stations, water control structures and our wider business. You will be joining a MEICA team helping to prioritise, plan and deliver the maintenance or replacement of our crucial assets enabling flood protection to homes, businesses and the environment, which will have an increasingly important role as we face the challenge of global climate change.

The role will be responsible for providing strong technical leadership to assure technical data. It will also be responsible for monitoring the quality and advising on the requirements to meet specialist MEICA technical, safety, legal, environmental and operational requirements, spreading across the geographic areas covering a very diverse range of assets.

You will provide technical data to ensure staff across the area team involved with electrical and mechanical works comply with statutory legislation, British and European standards together with Environment Agency’s codes of practices, procedures and related guidance.

The team

Our Supra-Area MEICA team is a multi-skilled, specialised group of MEICA engineers and support staff. We cover the EA’s Yorkshire and North East Operational Areas. You will report to the MEICA Team Leader, acting as technical leader on MEICA activity. You will provide technical support and be responsible for liaising with Business Partners and leading on actions on behalf of the Team Leader.

Experience/skills Required

We are seeking an experienced individual with an engineering degree, preferably with an engineering MEICA background.

You should also be able to demonstrate relevant experience in the following areas:

Other important requirements for this job include excellent influencing and organisational skills, the confidence to work remotely and independently as part of a dispersed team and ability to manage a complex and dynamic workload.

The office base locations are Beverley, Crosskill House. York, Foss House. Leeds, Lateral. Rotherham, Templeborough. Sheffield, Quadrant 2.

The hybrid working requirements are flexible but circa two days travel to sites and area offices.

Currently the position will attract a Market Forces Factor annual payments of £4750 for Incorporated Engineers and £9750 for Chartered Engineers (Member of ImechE/IET).

Competence 1

MEICA - Maintenance and work management systems

Description

Definition: Maintain MEICA assets to ensure they meet statutory, safety and performance standards and realise cost effective design life.

Question: Please describe a role where you used an Engineering Management System to manage funding, allocate and track work, deliver statutory and operational maintenance and carry out data analysis on MEICA systems. What tools did you use, and what impact did your approach have on asset performance or reliability?

Definition: Presenting a case in a convincing and attractive way that will win people over, encouraging them to follow plans willingly; often succeeding where logic and reason alone would fail.

Question: Describe a time when you had to influence or convince a non-technical audience to follow your engineering advice or plan?

How did you present your case in a clear, engaging and persuasive way? What techniques did you use to win people over and gain their commitment?

Competence 4

Data and Information Management

Description

Definition: Collects, analyses, interprets, records, manages, develops and shares data, material or information appropriately for a variety of Engineering purposes.

Question: Describe a time when you collected, analysed, and used engineering data to inform or influence a key business or technical decision?

Role specific license requirements

Full UK Driving Licence
