Who we are
We’re the people behind the global loyalty currency, Avios, and home to three ambitious, growing businesses: IAG Loyalty, British Airways Holidays and The Wine Flyer. Each business has its own goals and strategy, but collectively we create brilliant experiences for our global customers.
We’re on an exciting journey of growth and transformation – we’re going places! This is where you come in.
The opportunity
To support the Merchandising Lead, the Merchandiser is responsible for driving financial performance by contributing to the development and execution of merchandising strategies. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams including buying, marketing, e-commerce, and operations to ensure product assortments are competitive, trading decisions align with business objectives, and evolving customer needs are met.
You’ll take ownership of inventory planning, trading performance, forecasting, margin/price management, and promotional/markdown spend within your categories, consistently identifying risks and opportunities to deliver against KPIs.
This role is based in our London office. Our approach to hybrid working, The Blend, offers flexibility to work where you do your best work, while staying connected with your team. You will be required to spend at least two days per week in the office, with the rest working from home. Additional office or partner locations may be required based on your role and tasks.
What you’ll do
- Develop and execute short-term and long-term merchandising strategies to drive category growth, enhance brand positioning, and increase market share, in collaboration with the Merchandising lead and other teams.
- Work with buying teams to set category options aligned with market trends, customer preferences, and financial goals.
- Partner with marketing, operations, and buying teams to ensure successful product launches, online experiences, and marketing campaigns.
- Set revenue targets, maintain the WSSI, and define the OTB by category with Finance and the Merchandising Lead. Regularly review and update forecasts based on trading performance and market trends.
- Conduct weekly product performance reviews, identify slow-moving products, and propose actions to optimize sell-through and revenue.
- Lead preparation for weekly trading and planning meetings.
- Manage intake and sales gross margin performance weekly, addressing any issues.
- Review pricing strategies at the category/product level to maximize conversion and margin, ensuring timely price changes.
- Contribute to retail marketing plans by leading pricing and promotional strategies to maximize profitability while maintaining brand integrity.
- Monitor competitor activities and market trends, identifying counteractions as needed.
- Continuously review processes and practices, adopting industry best practices and evolving with the retail division.
- Support new retail ventures under IAGL Retail in collaboration with buyers.
- Develop and manage assistant merchandiser and admin assistant.
What we need from you
- 5-6 years of merchandising experience within a retail environment or similar experience.
- Proven ability to achieve revenue targets and manage budgets.
- Impact on customers through strategy and execution.
- Risk management skills to resolve operational risks.
- Knowledge of legal and compliance requirements.
- Subject matter expertise in one or more areas.
- People management experience with at least one direct report, with influencing and development skills.
- Capability development skills for planning and delivering team development.
We might not be right for you if:
- You prefer focusing solely on your tasks; we’re a small, collaborative team.
- You value perfection over progress; we move fast and iterate.
- You prefer creating without building; this role involves owning your space from ideation to delivery.
If you believe you’re a good fit but don’t meet every point, please still apply. We’d love to chat.
