Modern Start-Up Product Owner
New Yesterday
UK/EU Based, Fully Remote, Outside IR35
The Role
We are looking for a hungry and hands-on Product Owner to join our dedicated onshore team. This is not a project management role; we need a modern start up Product Owner who lives and breathes the product, sits side-by-side with our developers, and is passionate about building exceptional backend, data-centric solutions.
You will be the driving force behind your product area, responsible for the full lifecycle from discovery and ideation to delivery and iteration. You will be empowered to define the vision, manage the backlog, and make the critical decisions that will shape the future of a complex data platform. We need a doer, someone who isn't afraid to get stuck in, and champion modern development practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and manage the product backlog, translating high-level business requirements into clear, actionable user stories for the development team.
- Collaborate daily with a co-located, onshore squad of engineers, QAs, and designers to ensure seamless delivery and a shared understanding of the product vision.
- Define and analyse metrics to inform the success of the product, using a data-driven approach to guide your decisions.
- Lead product discovery, roadmap planning, and stakeholder management sessions, ensuring alignment between technical execution and business goals.
- Become the subject matter expert for a complex, data-heavy platform, focusing on backend functionality, data flows, and API integrations.
- Champion an iterative, feedback-driven culture, continuously refining the product to deliver maximum value.
You are a rising star in the product world with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and the drive to prove yourself. You thrive in a start-up environment where you can have a tangible impact and are eager to learn and grow. You are accountable, open to feedback and mentorship, and have a strong personality that can influence and inspire a team.
Essential Experience & Skills:
- Demonstrable experience as a Product Owner in your last two consecutive roles.
- Proven, hands-on experience working directly and exclusively with onshore/co-located development teams.
- Strong technical background with significant experience in data-heavy environments. You must be comfortable with concepts like data stacks, data platforms, API development, and backend architecture.
- Experience working on products with a focus on backend functionality and complex data flows, rather than purely front-end, high-user-volume applications.
- A "modern start-up PO" mindset: you are deeply involved in the 'what' and 'why', and you are used to sitting with developers to solve problems.
- An entrepreneurial approach; perhaps you’ve helped build an MVP, secured funding, or worked in a role where you had to justify product value with clear commercial outcomes.
- A willingness to get "stuck in" – you are proactive, a problem-solver, and ready to tackle challenges head-on.
Desirable Attributes:
- Experience in a technical role (e.g., Software Developer, Data Analyst) before transitioning into product ownership.
- Experience within the financial services or insurance/reinsurance sectors.
- Familiarity with conceptualising and delivering platforms that integrate with third-party systems (e.g., CRMs, payment providers).
- A key role in a high-impact, greenfield project for a major global client.
- Direct access to mentorship and a supportive, collaborative team.
- The autonomy and responsibility to own your product area and see your vision come to life.
- A dynamic and fast-paced start-up culture where you can make a real difference and accelerate your career.
