Overview

As a Mortgage Underwriter Specialist you will be working closely with the Mortgage Underwriters; you will provide support in delivering AMAZEING service to colleagues and customers through assessment of mortgage applications and handling mortgage enquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Assess Mortgage Agreements in principle decisions and apply your knowledge of Mortgage Lending Policy ensuring compliant and fair customer outcomes.
  • Assess Mortgage Valuations to confirm the suitability of Security in line with Mortgage Lending Policy.
  • Validate application details against documentary evidence provided by Mortgage Brokers & Consultants.
  • Review and assess Basic Mortgage Applications including Rate Switching, Transfers of Equity and Like for Like Porting Applications as well as assessing some Post Contract variation requests including Consent to Let requests, Deeds of Substituted Security and Planning Consents.
  • Package mortgage applications ensuring they are ready to be reviewed by Mortgage Underwriters. Conduct and review credit searches, source information from Land Registry, Rightmove AVM and Experian Business Search and add the respective reports to Mortgage Applications.
  • Work closely with the Lead Mortgage Underwriters handling enquiries from Mortgage Brokers regarding High Value Mortgage Applications.
  • Manage the internal mailbox for the team and liaise with external suppliers (such as our property valuation provider) for progress updates to ensure each mortgage application is assessed as soon as possible.
  • Complete admin tasks to support the Mortgage Underwriters, including responding to emails and liaising with other teams within Mortgage Operations.
  • Regularly ensure you have time planned to keep up to date with changes to mortgage products and lending policy.

What you will need

  • Understand the types of Mortgage products available at Metro Bank and be aware of the assessment criteria of each.
  • Knowledge of Residential and Buy to Let mortgage lending and understand how your work must comply with mortgage regulation.
  • A good understanding of how to use the full Microsoft Office suite; experience in using Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in a Mortgage role handling internal and external enquiries by telephone and email.
  • Experience of reviewing and maintaining data accuracy.
