NCEA Land Access Database Technical Lead – 31738

This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in delivering an operationally vital part of the Environment Agency’s Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) Programme. The programme supports Defra's wider NCEA programme by building an evidence base on the state and value of the natural environment to transform environmental decision-making in England. The post is based within the National Monitoring – Fish and Ecology team, with a national scope and flexible working arrangements. Some travel and overnight stays will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for all aspects of landowner access for the monitoring networks within the programme.
  • Maintain landowner data, ensuring compliance with Environment Agency and legal requirements.
  • Work with operations specialists to align delivery with programme goals and timelines; maintain strong cross-team relationships.
  • Offer expert technical leadership through training, guidance, and optimization of data management processes.
  • Collaborate independently and with others to troubleshoot access and programme delivery challenges; adapt to evolving priorities.

Experience and Qualifications

Experience with geospatial data, interaction with internal and external customers, and managing datasets. This role is suitable for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in managing and governing a key dataset, contributing to a learning, adaptive, and continuously improving culture. The successful candidate will:

  • Have strong data management and GIS skills, including maintaining landowner datasets and performing spatial analyses for NCEA networks.
  • Provide technical leadership through training and process optimization.
  • Be proactive and adaptable in response to changing priorities; work both independently and in teams.

Other Information

Location: Flexible working location with EA office base; travel and overnight stays required as needed.
