OverviewNetwork & Security Engineer – Based: Home-based, within the London area. Type: Full-time. Salary: In the region of £50k. Eligibility: You must be eligible to work in the UK.The purpose of the Network & Security Engineer role is to create and deliver optimum solutions to meet business and client needs through the whole project lifecycle from understanding the project and requirements to transition into BAU support. This is a pivotal role in the delivery of technological solutions for the business and our customers. The role involves challenging projects that may span more than one application and/or technology and requires a focus on delivery goals. The role may require day-to-day network operations support, with emergency availability in the event of service faults. It includes operations on a metro London service provider network and customer-facing responsibilities, supporting customer networks and infrastructure. The role is hands-on and may require visits to customer sites, data centres and other work locations, with travel to client sites as needed. The ideal candidate will have extensive networking experience and, ideally, vendor certifications. A satisfactory DBS check may be required.Amongst other tasks, you will be responsible for:Provide Technical support at 2nd line level to Academia CustomersWork closely with Academia Service Desk Team for networking-related escalationsTechnical resource responsible for network implementation projects of varying scalesProvide innovative solutions to meet business needsAssist with policy, procedure and standards documents based on industry best practices and personal research and experienceProvide support for critical system changes outside of business hoursAssist with data centre management as requiredKey Skills:Experience with enterprise-level network & security / telecom services with Juniper and Cisco MerakiProven track record of delivering complex technical solutionsExperience working with outsourced partnersExperience with network and security products including Juniper, Cisco, HPEKnowledge of OSPF, BGP, VRF/VRF lite, L2VPN & L3VPNs, Cloud-based delivery, UCTechnical design and documentation skillsExperience with WLAN products (Meraki, MIST, Aruba, Ubiquiti)Experience installing network firewalls, routers and switchesAbility to troubleshoot network issues (TCP/IP), IPsec VPNs and VLANs, managed switches and firewallsAbility to troubleshoot third-party software and liaise with vendor supportAbility to articulate technical options/issues/designs for informed management decisionsStrong communication skills to explain technical issues clearlyStrong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess complex issues and recommend solutionsNice to have:CCNP / JNCIS - Professional level certificationsExperience in a Data Centre environmentWhy Academia?Academia is an innovative and rapidly expanding technology company on a mission to transform IT services for large public and private sector customers.
