Overview
We are seeking a Senior Manager from a non-life insurance pricing background to join our Actuarial practice. The PwC Actuarial practice comprises over 300 partners and staff with offices in London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Bristol and Mumbai. Our consultants focus on non-life, life, banking and non-insurance, led by a fifteen strong partner team. We are the largest actuarial practice within the large accounting firms and play a leading role in PwC’s actuarial community worldwide, collaborating with specialists from other disciplines. A career within the Non-Life Actuarial team provides the opportunity to contribute general insurance advice and consulting services to clients such as insurers, regulators, private equity, and related companies such as agents and administrators. Our clients rely on us to provide well-informed challenges to their business and the models used to inform decision making. Our practice is market leading in the General Insurance space, offering access to solving significant challenges for a wide range of clients including large multinational composites, Lloyd’s & London Market, UK & European Personal & Commercial, and Reinsurance Market.
Responsibilities
- You’ll provide advice covering solvency, economic capital, risk management, mergers and acquisitions, company restructuring and risk control, financial modelling, business planning, new legislation, and the efficiency and reliability of reporting processes.
- You’ll work predominantly on pricing, with opportunities to also work on Reserving, and/or Risk and Capital projects across the London/Lloyd’s market and/or the Personal & Commercial lines market. You will work on multidisciplinary projects around areas such as transactions, organisational transformation, cost reduction and start-ups.
- Our team advises clients in the general insurance and non-insurance industries on business risks and regulatory updates from natural catastrophes to mortgage defaults. We develop comprehensive risk analysis and mathematical models to help organisations enhance their forecasting capabilities, limit their risks, and use data informatively for better strategic decisions.
- You’ll manage and deliver a wide range of concurrent actuarial and multidisciplinary assignments and interact with clients, often as the main point of contact on assignments.
- You’ll have the opportunity to work in multidisciplinary teams or with people from PwC network firms overseas.
- You’ll take an active role in supporting the strategic management and running of the practice, such as developing pricing team offerings or training programs for graduates and staff.
- You’ll be involved in developing more junior staff through on-the-job coaching, mentoring, or study coaching.
This Role Is For You If
- You’ll be open to new challenges, self-motivated, agile and able to leverage existing skills in new areas like deals due diligence and technology change for pricing functions.
- Background as a recognised general insurance consultant or have delivered significant actuarially related projects in general insurance.
- Have led actuarial or multidisciplinary projects, with responsibility for project management, delivery, staff development, and meeting time and budget requirements.
- Good understanding of pricing techniques, key actuarial pricing and regulatory issues, and working knowledge of one or more of: London Market direct pricing, reinsurance pricing and personal lines pricing (street and technical).
- Experience with pricing vendor tools is beneficial (e.g., HX, Tyche, Rulebook, Excel-based rating with SQL back-end; Earnix, Akur8, Emblem, Radar, Python and/or R for personal lines).
- Experience with niche pricing areas (e.g., trade credit, cyber pricing, catastrophe modelling) is beneficial.
- Ability to communicate complex technical matters clearly and maintain wider commercial awareness of the insurance industry.
