On-Board Software Engineer – Airbus Defence and Space

Location: Stevenage, UK (60% of your working week must be office based). Type: Full time. Travel: Occasional travel within UK and internationally. Security Clearance: Eligibility to gain UK SC Security Clearance or subject to BPSS check (including a criminal record check).

Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a Software Engineer to join our team in Stevenage to design and develop software products for vehicle functions and data management (networks, avionics and open platforms) systems and software. Working on ESA projects, you will learn how your software integrates with the satellite and how satellites function. Career opportunities for this role can include Software Expert, Software Delivery Manager, Responsible Software Developer, Team Lead or Project Manager.

How You Will Contribute To The Team

  • Analyse complex relationships and implement On-Board software solutions for future satellite programs
  • Concept creation for software changes and new development based on project context and applicable documents (Development Plan, System Requirements Specification, Architecture Design Document, Validation Plan, Verification Plan, etc.)
  • Support in all phases of the Software life cycle, from requirements to acceptance of a software solution
  • Participate in creation of unit and subsystem integration tests and hardware/software integration tests

About You – Your Skills

  • Proficient in software design and development in a resource-constrained / embedded environment using C or Java
  • Proficient in design, development and integration on Linux
  • Experience of software integration, performance testing and debugging at the hardware level for complex systems
  • Experience in requirements analysis and implementation
  • Knowledge of software development tools such as VSCode, Eclipse, JIRA, Git, Jenkins
  • Ideally experience in Space/on-board software environments and related processes
