Key Information
Job title: Operations Energy Manager, sustainability targets. As Energy Manager you will be joining a new programme team within TfL's Facilities Operations department. This role has been designed to undertake end-to-end carbon reduction audits of our operational estate and to propose ways that TfL can save carbon/energy — there is a focus on delivering practical, measurable improvements and not passively advising on policy. Technical knowledge is a prerequisite to have the ability to make the proposals for change, but the role would benefit from an enthusiastic presence that has the necessary stakeholder engagement skills to win hearts and minds in our journey to deliver meaningful change to our operational business. You will be the first energy manager at TfL and will set the tone and expectations across the business as to what to expect from this function, which will ultimately succeed by gaining buy in from our colleagues. It is our ambition to tackle the climate and ecological emergency so that we can continue to safely and inclusively serve London for generations to come. As London\'s strategic transport authority, it is our job to deliver and support the outcomes set out in the Mayor\'s Transport Strategy and the London Environment Strategy. We aim to lead the world in harnessing environmental opportunities that can make London safer as the climate changes, while making the city a more attractive place to live, work in and visit.
Please find below the key accountabilities of the role and the Skills / Knowledge / Experience we are looking for in potential applicants. Please do not be disheartened if you do not meet these criteria exactly; the list accounts for a wide range of attributes and the successful applicant is unlikely to meet them all perfectly. We encourage applications from a wide background of people that can show experience of having worked in an appropriate field — energy, green engineering, sustainability, or environmental management. Please focus your application on the criteria you do meet and what you would bring to the role if appointed. The hiring manager would rather make the decision on your suitability for the role, rather than you prejudge yourself overly harshly.

- Author and monitor delivery plans of recommended actions to improve all aspects of energy management, energy efficiency and carbon impact within operational departments that deliver legal compliance, continuous service improvement, accountability of responding to corporate energy and carbon targets/objectives which meet customer expectations and budgetary constraints.
- Produce a register of carbon reduction audits and the associated recommended actions and departmental targets for implementation.
- Ensure the recommended actions are undertaken by influencing others to buy into the recommended changes, in order to embed the proposed carbon reduction and energy saving measures into business as usual.
- Undertake post intervention impact reports to monitor the success of the recommended actions, the performance against the departmental targets and their alignment to TfL Scorecard and Mayoral Targets.
- Role model personal commitment to making TfL\'s operations more sustainable, guiding a wider engagement strategy to encourage behavioural change of colleagues at all levels across Operations.
