This P6 Planner - SPN will report to the Project Controls and Data Excellence Manager and will work within the Capital Programme based in Maidstone or Crawley. You will be a permanent employee. Salary: £65,241 with a 3% bonus. Blended working after probation (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote. Close Date: 24/09/2025.

Job Purpose
The P6 Planner manages and maintains end-to-end P6 project schedules within the Capital Programme department. Acting client-side, they support the delivery team (Programme Managers, Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Designers, Consents, and more) to forecast milestones, activities and costs using best practice project controls and P6 planning/cost forecasting. They maintain the UKPN master schedule, incorporate monthly contractor submissions, and support NEC3-based reporting and change management.
P6 is the hub of reporting within UKPN Capital Programme for forecasting project costs, activities and milestones and recording actual costs to date. You will ensure data integrity and accurate month-end cost and schedule forecasts for the project team.
Dimension
One of the UK Power Networks Capital Programme DNOs with an approximate annual expenditure of £110m. You will manage multiple projects across different lifecycle stages with various project managers.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide specialist P6 planning, project controls and contractor schedule review for allocated major projects.
- Apply project controls and NEC3 best practice and contract governance processes.
- Review and assess contractor schedules using 14-point standard checks, NEC contractual obligations checks and data integrity checks against UKPN requirements.
- Produce schedule progress reports including month-on-month variance and forward-looking cost, schedule and earned value analyses.
- Apply UKPN project controls handbook requirements to assigned projects.
- Understand and manage project milestones, dependencies and risks.
- Manage actuals and accruals reporting in P6 with period performance.
- Collaborate with Portfolio Managers, Programme Managers, Project Managers, Planning team and suppliers to maintain approved contract baseline schedules.
- Advise on schedule impact of proposed changes and integrate approved changes into baseline updates.
- Validate construction methodologies, resource and cost loading, activity durations, schedule logic, float allocation and critical path.
- Keep Programme plans and schedules current at Level 4 and below when not assigned to a third-party.
- Work with Risk Managers to identify and incorporate risk-mitigating actions and appropriate contingencies in baseline schedules.
- Lead/facilitate collaborative planning workshops with stakeholders.
- Coordinate information flow to manage project interfaces and increase efficiency.
- Attend sites for major/critical projects as required and obtain agreement to the schedule from project teams.
Qualifications
- Engineering-based degree or equivalent.
- Programme management qualification (APMP or similar) desirable.
Experience
- Extensive experience managing complex construction programmes using Primavera P6 in a multi-disciplined environment (desirable).
- Experience in the principal accountabilities listed above.
- Strong technical problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication skills for internal and external stakeholders.
- Good oral, written and presentation skills with data analysis experience.
- Familiarity with standard office software (Project, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, Outlook).
- Competent experience with P6 planning software.
- Ability to obtain information and commitment from the team while maintaining professional credibility.
- Experience reviewing schedule impact assessments and extension of time disputes; experience incorporating contractor schedules into the master schedule.
