About The Team

The Panel Support Team ensures that NMC Panel Members and Legal Assessors are efficient, engaged, technically proficient, empathetic in their approach and reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. We manage the selection and appointment, induction and onboarding, ongoing training and continuous development, and performance of over 580 Panel Members and Legal Assessors. We also manage and deliver the Hearings Coordinator induction training programme.

About The Role

This role is offered on a fixed term basis until October 2026

Salary ranges

London £61,633 - £68,481

Edinburgh £57,317 - £63,686

The Panel Support Team Manager will play a key role in supporting the Head of Panel Support to ensure the NMC has sufficient, well trained and high-quality panel members in order for Fitness to Practise panel decision making to be made effectively.

They will provide strong leadership and direction to the team, ensuring they facilitate and support the teams to enable them to achieve the department or directorate’s objectives.

They will have responsibility for the recruitment, training and performance monitoring of fitness to practise panel members and legal assessors ensuring the organisation has access to high calibre individuals who make a positive contribution to our aim of protecting the public.

They will oversee the management of panel member and legal assessor performance monitoring frameworks, approve investigations into alleged failings to adhere to contractual terms or relevant codes of conduct and providing appropriate reports to the Appointments Board and where necessary, supporting decisions relating to suspension or termination of appointment.

They will be responsible for working effectively and collaboratively with colleagues across the Professional Regulation directorate and the wider organisation to ensure the safe and effective delivery of the Fitness to Practise plan.

Additional Information

Successful candidates will be appointed to a particular NMC Office, but you may be required to travel to other NMC locations, that are reasonable daily commute from your home office.

Hybrid Working Policy

We are currently working to a policy of office attendance for two days per week with the rest of the time working from home. Before making your application please ensure your able to commit to working in one of our office locations twice per week. If you are applying for a part time role please pro-rata office attendance based on number of day you would be working.

Our Pay Policy

It is expected that staff new to the NMC will ordinarily be appointed to the bottom of the relevant pay band. However in exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to offer a salary above the bottom of the relevant pay band but we may request proof of current earnings. Please note that we offer an annual review of salaries and adopt a generous progressive pay approach. Further details of which are available on request.
