Payroll and Benefits Specialist

Are you a detail-driven payroll professional with technical expertise and public sector experience? Our confidential public sector client is seeking a Technical Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join their team and play a critical role in delivering accurate and compliant payroll and benefits services across their complex organisation.
This is a fully remote opportunity, offering autonomy and the chance to work with a supportive and forward-thinking payroll function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and process high-volume, complex payrolls in compliance with public sector regulations.
- Act as a Workday superuser, supporting payroll configuration, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Oversee end-to-end payroll processes, including statutory reporting, reconciliations, RTI submissions, and audit requirements.
- Coordinate and administer employee benefits schemes including pensions (LGPS/NHS/Teachers' Pension schemes preferred), cycle-to-work, season ticket loans, and more.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders and external providers to ensure accurate delivery of payroll and benefits.
- Assist in process improvement initiatives and system optimisations within Workday.
Ideal Candidate:
- Proven experience managing complex payrolls within the public sector.
- Strong working knowledge of Workday Payroll is essential.
- Solid understanding of UK payroll legislation, tax, NI, pensions (preferably public sector schemes), and benefits administration.
- Confident working autonomously in a remote environment.
- Excellent analytical skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and compliance.
- Experience supporting internal audits and year-end processes (P60s, P11Ds, etc.).
