Overview

Middlemore are delighted to be working on behalf of a high-touch global financial services firm to support with a brand-new hire of a UK Payroll Manager to join their high performing HR team based in central London. Our client is seeking an experienced and dynamic UK Payroll Manager with expertise in Workday Payroll to oversee the end-to-end payroll function for their UK operations. This role requires accuracy, compliance, and innovation, with collaboration with their payroll provider, Strada.

Key Responsibilities

  • End to end Payroll Management: Oversee the full UK payroll process, including preparation, reconciliation, and distribution of payrolls for all employees, ensuring compliance with internal policies and statutory regulations.
  • Vendor Management: Serve as the primary liaison with their payroll provider, Strada, coordinating efforts and resolving issues for accurate payroll delivery.
  • Workday Payroll Administration: Act as the subject matter expert on Workday Payroll, working with the HRIS team for system configuration, troubleshooting, and process optimisation.
  • Compliance and Governance: Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, UK payroll legislation (including PAYE, NI, SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP, etc.), auto-enrolment, and company policies; stay abreast of legislative changes and implement updates.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and present detailed payroll reports, analytics, and variance analyses for senior management; provide actionable insights for process improvement.
  • Process Improvement: Review payroll processes and implement enhancements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and employee satisfaction.
  • Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact for payroll queries from employees, HR, Finance, and external bodies; maintain strong relationships for effective communication and issue resolution.
  • Year-End Activities: Coordinate year-end payroll activities, including P60, P11D, and P45 processing, HMRC submissions, and audits.
  • Data Security and Confidentiality: Maintain high standards of data security and confidentiality, in compliance with GDPR and policy.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • 5 years’ experience operating as a UK Payroll Manager
  • Background in a regulated environment would be advantageous
  • Experience using Workday Payroll is highly desirable
  • Curious and tenacious attitude
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, especially with large data volumes
