Role Description
As Payroll Manager, you will take ownership of a portfolio of clients. You will act as a payroll subject matter expert, applying best practices and providing advice and guidance to clients on payroll matters. This role will be primarily home-based/remote, with team building and training days held at the Phase 3 office in Manchester City Centre on average once a quarter.
Contribution to Business Growth & Development:
- Develop your knowledge and take opportunities to learn new systems and stay up to date with emerging trends to support our clients.
- Work along side our Customer Success Team to identify any areas for growth
- Ensure prompt identification and communication of any risks or issues to line managers and customers.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full end-to-end payroll process for client payrolls, ensuring that all payrolls are accurate, completed on time, and all statutory submissions are performed within required deadlines
- Auto-enrolment duties on client payrolls including upload of new starters, monthly contributions and cyclical re-enrolment
- Client meetings to discuss issues and priorities
- Working well with conflicting priorities and deadlines
- Operate flexibly and have a desire to learn new systems and processes in a supportive environment
- Be proactive and accountable to the highest calibre of professionalism, service and accuracy
- Experience with Sage People Payroll or Brain Payroll (Not essential but preferred)
- Experience managing high-volume payroll(s) with 1000+ Employees
- Experience of working in a Payroll Bureau
- Strong Excel Skills, including competency in VLOOKUP, pivot tables and intermediate formulas
- Knowledge of P11Ds/payrolled benefits
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and in documentation
- Time Management and organisational skills, the ability to work under pressure
- Ability to manage own workload while Working From Home
- Excitement about flexibility, independence, initiative and knowledge-sharing in your job
- Commitment to clients, team and the Phase 3 role

- Ability and willingness to travel if required although client travel is minimal
Add extra value to your application with experience of more than one of the following: iTrent, PeopleXD, ResourceLink, Salesforce, BrightPay SAP, Unit 4, Business Objects, Cognos, SQL reporting (or legacy equivalents)
