You will be joining the People Services team. It is a small, values-driven and supportive team that works together to deliver excellent professional services to our 380 staff and almost 1000 volunteers. This role will also work closely with our Finance team.
We all work flexibly from home or the Hospice, but take time to check in each morning to see how everyone is, ask questions, and get support if needed.
Key responsibilities:
- Delivering accurate and timely monthly payroll for all staff, ensuring compliance with legislation, HMRC and regulatory reporting.
- Administration and processing of our three pension schemes
- Calculating and processing statutory pay entitlements and any additional payments or benefits as set out in hospice policy.
- Maintain and improving our payroll system, Cascade, and associated processes
- Supporting staff and managers with payroll questions, and assisting with audits, reporting, and process improvements.

What you'll bring:
- Strong previous experience in payroll
- A keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Good time management, flexibility and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Open to change and looking for ways to improve payroll processes.
- Keeps up to date with payroll legislation and any changes that affect staff pay. Demonstrates behaviours that support Hospice values.
About Ashgate:
Ashgate Hospice, based in North Derbyshire, offers free palliative and end of life care for adults with life-limiting or incurable illnesses, including cancer, neurological diseases, and advanced heart, kidney, and lung conditions. Last year, we cared for over 2,400 people. Our aim is to support our patients by keeping them informed, managing their symptoms, and improving their quality of life from diagnosis onwards.
