Job Description

Do you want to work for an organisation that values difference and includes everyone? If so, the Environment Agency is the organisation for you.

We are fully committed to being an inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities for everyone. We welcome flexible working patterns for all vacancies, including job share.

We are looking for a Pensions Administration Manager to play a key role in the Benefits & Engagement team with the Environment Agency Pension Fund (EAPF). The role focuses on all aspects of Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) administration. It offers a unique opportunity to work closely with a dedicated team and the third-party administration provider to deliver the administration contract in line with the fund’s business plan and strategy. You will ensure high-quality service delivery to all LGPS members and stakeholders, support LGPS employers to ensure compliance, and resolve service issues.

You will manage the day-to-day performance of the third-party provider, report to the Pensions Committee, and collaborate with the Benefits Working Group to improve service delivery. The role requires interpreting complex legislation, advising the team and LGPS employers, managing process improvements, providing technical advice, handling complaints, and supporting IDRP cases.

Responding to incidents is a central part of the role, with potential additional payments and full training provided.

The EAPF team is part of the Strategy, Transformation and Assurance Directorate, managing approximately £5bn of assets for 40,000 members. The team is based in Bristol city centre and values teamwork, responsibility, and delivering excellent service.

Experience/Skills Required

You should have proven senior-level experience of the LGPS, strong knowledge of Scheme regulations, third-party administration arrangements, and relationship management skills. Ability to interpret complex pensions issues and communicate effectively with stakeholders is essential. Knowledge of pension administration systems, problem-solving, strategic thinking, and the ability to work independently are important. Industry-standard qualifications are advantageous but not mandatory; support for attainment is available.
