Hours: Full time Mon-Fri 9am-5.30pm (37.5 hours per week)

Purpose of the role
In joining UHY, you will be part of a growing, successful, forward‑thinking and dynamic tax department. This role involves significant leadership, strategic financial management, high‑level client relationship management, and driving growth for the Tax Service Line. You will be responsible for Personal Tax compliance processes and workflow, with ample opportunity to get involved in high‑value advisory work for a varied portfolio of individuals.
You will deliver ad‑hoc projects and bespoke tax planning reports. A commercial mindset is essential, as you will play a key role in business development, spotting opportunities for growth within existing clients and pitching for new business.
In addition to guiding and mentoring a team of tax staff, you will support the leaders of the Tax Service Line in delivering a strategic approach.
Accountabilities
- Manage a large portfolio of individuals and unincorporated businesses, covering a broad range of affairs and complexity.
- Oversee the entire team’s compliance cycle, from preparation of documents, subsequent reviews, advising clients of their tax positions and submission to HMRC.
- Complete and review complex compliance work to the highest standards and continually identify tax planning opportunities for clients.
- Line‑manage and mentor junior members of the tax team.
- Assist with internal tax training of staff within the team.
- Demonstrate integrity and high‑quality work, acting as an example to colleagues.
- Collaborate with staff across all office locations to improve compliance processes and stay at the cutting edge of tax technology.
- Promote the Tax Service Line within the group and assist teams in other locations with tax matters.
- Provide ad‑hoc advisory work, including project scoping, fee quoting, and delivery of high‑quality tax reports.
- Build and maintain key relationships with clients and third parties.
- Lead client meetings with complex clients and act as a trusted advisor.
- Work with staff from other service lines to ensure a joined‑up approach.
- Monitor key KPIs across your portfolio and the team such as WIP, billing and debtors to ensure profitability.
- Drive new business opportunities across the client base, liaising with senior staff to engage new clients and maximise fee revenues.
Professional skills/qualifications
- Strong tax technical knowledge and advisory experience.
- Acontinued aspiration to further your skill set.
- The ability to spot tax planning opportunities and progress these independently with clients.
- Proven track record of managing a varied tax portfolio.
- The ability to work autonomously and lead others.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- The ability to review other people’s work and develop junior staff through clear and constructive feedback.
- The ability to build a rapport and develop strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
